Yeouido Rocks

"Yeouido Rocks," 2007
Corel Painter + Corel Photo-Paint

So, I broke my right wrist about five weeks ago, and only recently got out of the cast. Free at last! Here is an image inspired by rocks from Yeouido Park in Seoul.

"Fast Food"

"Fast Food," 2007
Corel Painter

This is the first image I've made that I feel is any good... Gory, unclean, dehumanizing, and something we should be ashamed of - that's fast food.

Yes, it is a squid. I was playing around with different brushes in Painter.

These are some images I did to test my understanding of Art Deco style.

Rocks!

Corel Painter

These are some rocks on top of a mountain. I used a picture I took while in Korea as a reference.

Lime Attack

Corel Painter
I've been working on texture today, so here are three limes, painted throughout the day. At the top is the first, and at the bottom is the most recent. The top one looks more like a mutant watermelon, if you ask me. I've definitely improved!

Color Practice

Corel Painter
I'm just playing around with colors here, nothing serious. I checked out 7 books from the library about color theory, perspective drawing, visual composition, art history, and lighting. I've definitely got my work cut out for me.

My Hand

Corel Painter
Well it's actually only part of my left hand. Painting from real life is a ton more difficult than painting from a picture... especially when I have to hold my hand still for this long!

Metal

Corel Painter
The only part of this that I did was the huge part that looks out of place. I'm practicing creating different textures, and it looks like it's definitely going to take some practice. This is a blown up part of a painting from here.

Arm

Corel Painter ~3.5 hours
It's my first arm! The sketch is based on one of those cheesy "learn to draw" sites on the net. The hand sucks, but I really like the upper arm. Also, it went a lot faster than last time.

Magna Carta Portrait

Corel Photo-Paint. ~7 hours
(left) Original character art from Magna Carta.
(middle) My inked version of the face. No tracing!
(right) My colors under the inks. I'm really happy with the way it turned out!

First Post

I created this blog for motivational purposes: hopefully in the future I'll be able to look back on these first pictures and see how much I've developed.

Here are some practice images I made earlier this week:
Corel Photo-Paint. ~1 Hour
Just pencil that was on my desk. I still don't seem to have the hang of straight lines. Also, this image is tiny?

Corel Painter. ~1 hour
Here's a leg I copied from one of the characters in Magna Carta. I am awfully proud of the way this turned out. Another part of the image that I spent significantly more time copying will be available later. This was good practice for eyeballing lines and shading.
